My process in Laie is thus...
- Stare longingly at the half a dozen green mangoes in the two trees in our backyard.
- Find a step stool and a long stick to help me get one of the green mangoes out of the tree and into my hand.
- Set the green mango, which was rock hard on the kitchen counter.
- Wait 10 days, gently squeezing the mango daily to judge its squishiness.
- When patience runs out, peel and slice the mango.
- Enjoy sweet, joyful bliss of a home grown mango.
Even better, I put some mango slices in the stash of fresh pineapple in the fridge. By lunchtime, it was heavenly pineapple/mango bliss. Better than candy.
The rest of the mangos on our trees do not have a chance. Next up, bananas... the first showed up on the tree a week ago.
